The National Women's Theatre Festival

Welcome one and all to WTFCon, the nation’s largest symposium on gender in theatre! Our annual conference will have programming appropriate for professional theatre artists of all disciplines, as well as undergraduate and graduate students, and professors. This year, we have robust tracks of programming planned for playwrights, performers, producers, directors, academics, and administrators including presentations on topics like “incorporating best practices from other industries” and “getting your work out there” that will be relevant to artists in any number of disciplines.

The Festival is completely hybrid, meaning you’re welcome to join us in person in Raleigh, NC, or from the comfort of your own home, wherever that may be!

WTFCon23 is June 21-23 at NC State University and virtually across the nation!

Theme & Speakers

The theme of the conference this year is Opening Doors which we will be examining from different points of view. Our keynotes will be Katy Sullivan, Champion Paralympian and star of The Cost of Living on Broadway, Christine Toy Johnson, Tony-honored Broadway performer and Treasurer of the Dramatists’ Guild, in addition to Chelsea Pace, Intimacy Choreographer for A Strange Loop on Broadway and founder of Theatrical Intimacy Education, exploring combating Impostor Syndrome.

Our presentations this year include Stephanie Douglass, Host of The Moth for Chicago Public Radio, on both Storytelling and Improv, multiple-award winning playwright Jeanette W. Hill on Playwriting, and a panel of women directors from Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington discussing the challenges and victories of their careers – among many others!

The conference will take place Wednesday, June 21st through Friday, June 23rd, 2023 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Our Fringe Festival will begin the evening of Thursday, June 22nd and run through Saturday, July 1st.
